Tax Freedom Day
Saturday June 28, 2003
Tax Freedom Day for the average Canadian fell on June 28, two days later this year according to the Fraser Institute. Each year the Institute calculates how long Canadians have to work to pay the taxes they owe to the three levels of government in Canada. Nearly 40 percent of total increases in the average tax bill this year are due to social security, pension, medical and hospital taxes. Try calculating your own personal tax freedom day using the calculator provided by the Institute.
