Crime Statistics for 2002

The crime rate stayed low in Canada in 2002, with little change from the year before. Statistics Canada says that the number of crimes reported by police in Canada is down 27 percent from its high in 1991. The crime rates in Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, Alberta and New Brunswick went up in 2002. Crime rates in Ontario and Quebec went down. The total number of homicides reported in Canada in 2002 was 582.
