Rolling Blackouts Continue in Ontario

Saturday August 16, 2003
Most of Ontario has power again, but Ontario Premier Ernie Eves warns that if people don't practice energy conservation, the situation could change quickly. Ontario residents will likely be coping with rolling blackouts for the rest of the weekend and possibly into next week as the province recovers from the power outage.

Even if you have your power back on, Ontario Premier Ernie Eves and the Ministry of Public Works and Safety are urging all Ontario residents to
  • keep the air conditioner off. Fans are okay.
  • keep the TV off. Use a battery-operated radio.
  • don't use the dishwasher
  • conserve water. The pumps from reservoirs to homes and businesses use a huge amount of electricity, so don't water your lawn and postpone doing the laundry. Don't wash your car either.
