Evacuation of Canadians From Lebanon

Wednesday July 19, 2006
The evacuation of Canadians from besieged Lebanon has begun. The federal government has arranged for seven ships to help Canadians and their non-Canadian dependents who wish to leave Lebanon. Six of the ships will go to Turkey, and the other ship is expected to go to Cyprus. From there, the Canadians will be transferred to chartered aircraft to come back to Canada. The federal government will pick up all the costs of the evacuation. The government is also making sure that those who have expired Canadian travel documents will get emergency passports so they can make the trip.

The Canadian Embassy in Beirut is contacting Canadians in Lebanon with specific departure details, so it is vital that those Canadians are registered with the embassy. Canadians can register with the Canadian Embassy in Beirut
  • online
  • by calling the Canadian Embassy in Beirut at 961 (4) 713-900 or
  • by making a collect call to the Emergency Operations Centre in Ottawa at 001-613-996-8885.
Government officials say the evacuation could take several weeks to complete. They estimate that there are approximately 50,000 Canadians in Lebanon, although only 30,000 have registered so far. The combined capacity of all seven ships is about 2000 passengers. The vessels will ferry back and forth until the evacuation is complete. Priority for the evacuation is going to those in greatest need.

I am sick and tired of the Canadians in Lebanon. They whine and bitch about their government meanwhile they are 7000 miles from home - they are Lebanese Canadians and they expect to be taken oujt of Beirut on a luxury liner. Do you really think 45000 Canadians went to Lebabnon on vacation? I think not!!

Dear Mrs. Blair, i’m not going to argue with you since you never lived a war in your life, as for the 45000 Canadian Lebanese being in Lebanon on a vacation, if you don’t believe it, you can do a survey in all the travel agencies across Canada to see how many lebanese leave each summer to spend some quality time with their families abroad (meanwhile people like you don’t value these things). All i can say is that canadian lebanese are so greatful for Canada for saving their lives and getting them out of this mess, and one more thing if you may, i wish YOU and all the others who think the same way as you do to live and feel the thurst, the hunger, the fear, the torture and the war as the Canadian Lebanese did in the last month, maybe this will wake you up a bit and will kill your ego, people like you should live the war and burn in hell because you’re nothing but trash, people who don’t feel the pain with others and for others are worth nothing but a cheap used shoe.

Just a reminder, Canadian Lebanese pay taxes as much as you do and often more than you do. Canadian Lebanese are well educated people, most of them speak 3 languages meanwhile people like your majesty who are neo-canadians can’t even manage with one language, and if you dare calling them immigrants, just to remind you that you are an immigrant as much as they are, this country belongs to Amerindiens, not to the french nor to the english.
