It's that time of year again, and 2012 flu shot programs and clinics in Canada are getting started. The flu shot programs are managed by the provinces and territories, so the timing, priorities and whether or not the shots are free will depend on where you live.
In general, those at greatest risk for the seasonal flu, and most strongly urged to get a flu shot, are children 6-23 months old, people 65 years or older, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions like heart disease or diabetes, family members and caregivers of the above, health care workers, and essential services personnel, like police and fire fighters. If you have questions about whether a flu shot is appropriate for you, ask your doctor or a public health practitioner.
