Here are a few things to keep in mind before you start.
1. Not everyone can use NETFILE, so check the restrictions ahead of time.
2. Be sure to pick the level of software package that fits your tax situation. For example, you might need a different version of the software if you have RRSPs to report, or rental or investment income.
3. Make any change of address with the CRA and make a request or change in direct deposit information first. You can't make those changes through NETFILE.
4. Read the NETFILE security tips.
Remember, if you get frustrated or feel uncomfortable filing your taxes online, you can always do them the old-fashioned way. Get an income tax package, complete it by hand and send it by regular mail.

Is Netfile ever going to include people like me in New Zealand to file online?
Netfile is not as good and fast as it claims. My husband always filed his returns by paper and received his return with 3 weeks. This year we used “netfile” because CRA wants everyone to use this and they claim to be faster….this is not so. It’s now over 5 weeks and his return is still not processed. They claim to need supporting documents for his union dues which had to fax to them and they still have not processed it. My advice….file the old paper way that way they have all your receipts and no excuse to delay. If they want all the supporting documents anyway why not just use the old paper system and save yourselves the headache!!!
