  • Avoid rapid acceleration and hard braking.

  • Drive at the posted speed limit. Increasing your highway cruising speed from 100 kph (62 mph) to 120 kph (75 mph) can increase fuel consumption by about 20 percent.

  • Use cruise control to maintain a constant speed on the highway.

  • Accelerate smoothly when passing or merging with traffic.
