Plan Ahead to Save Gas

Planning Your Route and Time Can Save Gas

By , About.com Guide

A little planning can save gas.

  • combine errands to save trips

  • avoid road construction, steep hills and traffic jams

  • see if you can stagger your work hours to avoid peak traffic times so you spend less time sitting in traffic and use less gas

  • allow yourself plenty of time to avoid fast starts, quick braking and driving too fast, all of which use more gas

  • when you have a choice, remember that a four-lane highway is more fuel-efficient than a two-lane highway.
