The TELEFILE income tax service, which let Canadians file relatively simple tax returns by phone, was discontinued in September 2012. When it discontinued the service, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) reported that the use of TELEFILE had been declining by about 10 percent a year, as more Canadians filed their income tax returns online.
The related Income Tax Service for Seniors, which provided an even simpler way for invited seniors to file their taxes by phone using "yes" or "no" answers, was discontinued at the same time.
