  • Career

  • In 1984, Roberta Bondar was one of the six original Canadian astronauts selected to train at NASA.
  • In 1992, Roberta Bondar became the first Canadian woman in space when she flew on space mission STS-42 aboard the Discovery space shuttle. As an international payload specialist, she performed experiments in life and material sciences.
  • Roberta Bondar was the first neurologist in space.
  • After her return from space, Roberta Bondar retired as an astronaut to devote time to research and to photography.
