Business Opportunities With the Federal Government

The main way to find out about business opportunities with the federal government is through MERX. This online tendering service provides a searchable database of Canadian government business opportunities and it gives information on how to order the appropriate bid documents. It will also identify other suppliers ordering bid documents, to allow you to find potential bid partners or learn who your competition is. Annual subscription fees work out to $21.95 a month, plus document charges. Non-subscribers can also search the database and order tender packages, but the costs are higher. By April 1, 2005 user fees for federal opportunities on the Government Electronic Tendering Service (GETS) will be eliminated.

In addition to business opportunities with the Canadian federal government, MERX government partners include seven Canadian provincial governments and the government of Nunavut.

Federal Government Suppliers Lists

As well as MERX, the Canadian federal government uses supplier databases listing vendors who want to do business with the government. Businesses can register for the central Supplier Information Registration (SRI) service online, without having to go through a Contracts Canada representative. If you prefer, the option is still available to contact Contracts Canada to arrange registration.
