Quebec City

By Susan Munroe, About.com

Definition: Quebec City is the capital city of the province of Quebec, Canada. Quebec City is located on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River where it meets the St. Charles River.

The name Quebec is from the Algonquin word kebek meaning "narrowing of the waters" referring to the narrowing of the river at Cap-Diamant, the cliff dominating the site.
