Definition: Winnipeg is the capital city of the province of Manitoba, Canada. Situated at the junction of the Red River and the Assiniboine River, Winnipeg is at the heart of Canada and close to the geographic centre of North America.

The name Winnipeg comes from the Cree words meaning muddy water, referring to Lake Winnipeg 40 miles to the north.
