Canadian Confederation, the birth of Canada as a nation, took place on July 1, 1867. Originally just four provinces joined Confederation: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec. There are now 10 provinces and three territories in Canada. These are the dates each of the Canadian provinces and territories joined Confederation.
