Sir Adams George Archibald was a Father of Confederation. A strong supporter of Confederation, Adams George Archibald attended all three Confederation conferences as a delegate from Nova Scotia. He was later appointed Lieutenant Governor of the new province of Manitoba and the Northwest Territories, and then Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. Adams George Archibald received a knighthood for his work in helping lay the foundations for the province of Manitoba.

- Adams George Archibald was first elected to the Nova Scotia provincial assembly in 1851. He was one of two members for Colchester County.
- He was Solicitor General briefly in 1856 before the Liberals lost the election. When the Liberals came back into power in 1860, Adams George Archibald was appointed Attorney General.
- When Premier Joseph Howe was appointed imperial fisheries commissioner in 1862, Adams George Archibald acted as government leader until the 1963 election, which the Conservatives won.
- Adams George Archibald attended all three Confederation conferences and was considered the financial expert of the Nova Scotia delegation. After the first two conferences, Adams George Archibald became a strong supporter of Confederation.
- In 1867 Adams George Archibald was rewarded for his efforts in promoting Confederation in Nova Scotia by being named Secretary of State in the federal government. He held the post for less than a year and resigned due to the opposition to union in Nova Scotia.
- Not long after, in 1869, Adams George Archibald won a federal by-election in Colchester County and entered the House of Commons.
- In 1870 Adams George Archibald accepted the appointment as Lieutenant Governor of the new province of Manitoba. He established basic services, such as schools and courts, and negotiated the first two treaties with western Indians. Adams George Archibald received a knighthood for his contributions to the new province.
- In 1873, Adams George Archibald was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia.
