The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) was established in December 2003, consolidating all border services provided by the Canadian federal government into one agency. The Canada Border Services Agency has the dual purpose of protecting the safety and security of Canadians and at the same time facilitating trade and traffic.

Number of permanent residents landed: 210,625
Import duties collected: over $4 billion
GST collected: over $17 billion
Provincial sales taxes collected: over $115 million
Number of courier shipments processed: more than 29 million
Missing children recovered: 48
Weapons seized in 2008 calendar year: 4756 (523 firearms; 4233 other)
Number of drug seizures in 2008 calendar year: 11,454
Currency seized in 2008 calendar year: over $35 million
