A look through Canadian Landscapes may stir your curiosity about the physical origins of Canada. These wonderful photos and simple explanations from the Geological Survey of Canada show the diversity of Canada's scenery and geology.

And when you start to explore what's involved in the earth sciences in Canada, you'll find dinosaurs, earthquakes and satellites.

Dinosaurs and Paleontology

If dinosaurs capture your interest, don't miss the Royal Tyrrell Museum. You'll be able to find out how the dinosaurs lived, what they ate, how they changed and adapted, and why they became extinct.

Geology

Students and teachers from kindergarten to senior high school in Canada can access a great collection of resources on Canadian geology and earth sciences at EarthNet. There's a searchable database of materials to find out about the basics on rocks, minerals and gems, glaciers, plate tectonics and dozens of other topics. The Geological Survey of Canada provides a variety of data resources and products for geologists, and if you're interested in pursuing your studies in Canadian geology, follow the Geoscience Connections. Stop by About.com Geology from Andrew Alden for more on geology.

Remote Sensing Satellites

Remote sensing is another field that helps make sense of Canada's physical makeup. Satellite images of Canada from the Canadian Centre for Remote Sensing, helped along by interpretations, add a new dimension to our view of Canada.

Earthquakes and Seismology

To most of us it's the dramatic physical events that make the earth sciences in Canada interesting, so seismology holds a certain fascination. The Canadian Earthquake Hazards Program has a good set of earthquake FAQs, which answers many questions about earthquakes. There's also an interesting list of recent earthquakes in Canada, including time, place, and magnitude.
