Advance Polls in Canadian Federal Elections

Take Advantage of Advance Polls to Vote Early in a Canadian Federal Election

By Susan Munroe, About.com

If you don't wish to vote on election day, you can vote earlier at an advance poll. If necessary, you can also register at the advance poll.

For the 2008 Canadian federal election the advance polls are on Friday October 3, Saturday October 4 and Monday October 6, 2008. Advance polls are open from noon to 8 pm local time across Canada.

Your Voter Information Card will tell you the location of your advance poll. You can also find out where to vote in the advance poll by finding your riding using Election Canada's Voter Information Service or by calling Elections Canada at 1-800-463-6868.

If you are not on the voters list, you can register at the advance poll. To register at the advance poll, you must sign the Registration Certificate that the deputy returning officer completes for you and provide identification to prove your identity and residential address.
