Answer:

Updated: 09/26/08

Voting hours on election day are staggered across different time zones so that most of the results will be available at approximately the same time across Canada.

In general, polls will open and close at the following local times depending on the time zone:

  • Newfoundland Time Zone: 8:30 am - 8:30 pm
  • Atlantic Time Zone: 8:30 am - 8:30 pm
  • Eastern Time Zone: 9:30 am - 9:30 pm
  • *Central Time Zone: 8:30 am - 8:30 pm
  • Mountain Time Zone: 7:30 am - 7:30 pm
  • Pacific Time Zone: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm
*In Saskatchewan, when Daylight Saving Time is in effect in the rest of Canada, the polls will be open from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm.

Voting hours may be adjusted for various reasons, so it's best to check the times posted for your specific polling station. You can find the voting hours for your polling station on the Voter Identification Card you received in the mail or by entering your postal code in Election Canada's Voter Information Service.
