Revision Period

By , About.com Guide

Definition: The revision period in a Canadian federal election is a 28-day period during a federal election during which qualified voters can correct their names and addresses on the voters lists, add their names and addresses, ask that names be deleted (for deceased voters, for example), and object to a name on the voters lists.

It is also during revision period that returning officers may undertake targeted revisions of certain areas of ridings, such as a new residential development or a nursing home for example, in which they expect a high rate of change in qualified voters.

For more information on how to register to vote in a Canadian federal election, including registering to vote at the polling station on election day, see:

Provinical elections in Canada have similar revision periods.
