About the Canada Aviation Museum

The Canada Aviation Museum in Ottawa has one of the best collections of vintage aircraft in the world. This is a family-friendly museum with something for visitors of all ages. Aircraft and exhibits are arranged in a "Walkway of Time," tracking the history of aviation in both peacetime and war, from pioneer days to the jet age. The collections show the development of Canadian aeronautical technology in a world context. The musuem has more that 130 aircraft, and countless other artifacts such as engines, propellers, instruments, uniforms, and important works of aviation art.

What to Do at the Canada Aviation Museum

As well as the general exhibits, the Canada Aviation Museum also has

  • a Hang Glider Studio for kids and parents with crafts, LEGO, puzzles and puppets. Open weekends and holidays, daily in July and August.

  • "I Spy" Kits for children 5 and up. Available at the front desk.

  • workshops for kids

  • exciting sleepovers for groups of kids age 5 to 18

  • rides in a 1939 open-cockpit biplane over Ottawa. Choose from the Parliament Hill Tour, Gatineau Hills Tour, Eco-Tour or Vintage Wings Tour. Reservations required and fees vary.

  • helicopter rides over Parliament Hill or the Gatineau Hills. Reservations required and fees vary.

How to Get to the Canada Aviation Museum

You can get to the Canada Aviation Museum by car or bus. You can even fly yourself in to the Rockcliffe Flying Club. There is lots of free parking at the museum.

From Downtown Ottawa, take Sussex Drive East, which turns into the Rockcliffe Parkway. Take the Aviation Parkway exit.

From Ottawa West, take the Queensway East and exit at St. Laurent Blvd. North. Turn right on Ogilvie Road and then left on the Aviation Parkway.

From Ottawa East, take Highway 174 West and exit at St. Laurent Blvd. North. Turn right on Ogilvie Road and then left on the Aviation Parkway.

There are bus stops at the building. To get to the Canada Aviation Museum by bus, use the OC Transpo Travel Planner.

Hours of Admission

  • Summer (May 1 to Labour Day): 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily

  • Winter: Closed Mondays and Tuesdays, except on holidays and school breaks; open 10:00 am to 5:00 pm other days

Admission Fees

  • 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm daily: free
  • Adults: $9.00
  • Students and Seniors: $6:00
  • Families: $18.00
  • Children 4-15: $5:00
  • Children under 4: free
  • Veterans: free
