Canadian Government Budgets

Canadian government budgets are good indicators of the thrust of government policy and government initiatives to expect. Here are the most recent budgets from the federal government and governments of the provinces and territories in Canada.

New Brunswick Budget 2009-10
The New Brunswick March 2009 budget provides tax savings over four years, cuts government jobs and freezes government salaries for two years, and adds nearly a billion dollars to the province's net debt.
Newfoundland Budget 2009
The Newfoundland March 2009 budget provides economic stiumulus with targeted expenditures on economic development, infrastructure, health, education, poverty reduction, and the environment.
NWT Budget Address 2009-10
The February 2009 budget for the Northwest Territories provides fiscal stimulus with operating spending of more than $1.2 billion on top of the investment of $246 million in capital infrastructure approved earlier.
Nova Scotia Budget 2008
The April 2008 Nova Scotia Budget was cautious with limited spending and small tax breaks for groups like students, public transit riders and search-and-rescue volunteers.
Nunavut Budget 2007-08
Nunavut's March 2007 budget stresses the need to improve internal financial management practices to eliminate unnecessary spending and free up available funds to be able to deliver services. Budget address is in PDF.
Ontario Budget 2009
The March 2009 Ontario budget promises seven years of large deficits, corporate tax cuts, income tax cuts and a plan to merge the GST and provincial sales tax in 2010.
PEI Budget 2007
The Prince Edward Island October 2007 budget includes personal income tax deductions and increases to inrastructure and tourism spending. Documents in PDF.
Quebec Budget 2009 - 2010
The Quebec budget tabled in March 2009 will likely give the province a deficit for the next four years. It includes increased user fees, except for daycare, and will increase the provincial sales tax to 8.5 percent in 2011.
Saskatchewan Budget 2007 - 2008
Saskatchewan's March 2007 budget puts the emphasis on families, young people and seniors, continues tax cuts for business, makes new investments in health care, and provides more funds for communities and economic infrastructure.
Yukon Budget 2008 - 2009
The March 2008 Yukon budget includes measures to improve the health, safety and socio-economic well being of Yukon families and their communities.
