Auditor General of Canada

Definition: The Auditor General of Canada is a federal government official who conducts independent audits of federal government operations. As an Officer of Parliament, the Auditor General submits reports directly to the House of Commons through the Speaker, and provides members of parliament with unbiased information to help them examine the activities of the government and hold it accountable.

The Auditor General of Canada is appointed for a 10-year term.

The Office of the Auditor General of Canada was established in 1868.
