About Sheila Fraser:

Sheila Fraser, a Chartered Accountant, was appointed Auditor General of Canada in May 2001. Her role as head of the Office of the Auditor General of Canada was to audit the accuracy of the financial statements of the federal government, to check that the federal government was spending the correct amount of money according to the wishes of Parliament, and also to identify if the federal government was running its programs efficiently and economically.

Sheila Fraser was an Officer of Parliament and reported directly to the House of Commons.
