About Shawn Graham:

In 1998 Shawn Graham took over from his father as MLA for Kent, winning a by-election when his father retired as Kent MLA after 31 years. Elected Leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party in 2002, Shawn Graham led the Liberal Party to a surprisingly strong showing in 2003, nearly defeating the Progressive Conservatives. In the 2006 New Brunswick provincial election Shawn Graham led the Liberals to victory. His aim is to have New Brunswick become a "have" province by the year 2025.

Political Career of Shawn Graham:
  • Shawn Graham served as executive assistant to his father Alan Graham when he was Minister of Natural Resources and Energy under Premier Frank McKenna.

  • When his father retired in 1998, Shawn Graham ran in a by-election in the riding of Kent and was elected to the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly.

  • Shawn Graham was re-elected in the 1999 New Brunswick provincial election, although the Liberals lost and were reduced to 10 seats.

  • In 2002 Shawn Graham was elected Leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party.

  • In the 2003 New Brunswick provincial election Shawn Graham surprised everyone by leading the Liberal Party to win 26 seats, nearly defeating the Progressive Conservatives.

  • In the 2006 New Brunswick provincial election, Shawn Graham led the Liberals to victory.

  • Shawn Graham was sworn in as Premier of New Brunswick in October 2006.
