About John Reid:

John Reid was appointed Information Commissioner of Canada in 1998. A former president of the Canadian Nuclear Association, John Reid was a federal member of parliament from 1965 to 1984. During his years as parliamentary secretary to the President of the Privy Council, John Reid worked on improving the flow of information from the public service to members of parliament, which led to working on improving the right of access to government records for all Canadians.

As Information Commissioner of Canada, John Reid was an independent ombudsman who investigated complaints from those who believed they had been denied rights under the Access to Information Act. He was an Officer of Parliament and reported directly to Parliament.
