To file your taxes, you need an income tax package for the province in which you resided on December 31 of the previous year. The package includes a return (form), federal tax worksheet, schedules (more forms), provincial or territory tax worksheet, and an information guide.
If you filed a Canadian income tax return last year, you can expect to receive an income tax package in the mail in January.
The type of tax form in the income tax package that Canada Revenue sends you is based on the income tax return you filed last year. If it is not appropriate for this year, then use a general income tax package.
If you do not receive a Canadian income tax package in January 2009, receive the wrong one, or need an extra one, here are four ways to get one.
1. Download and Print the Package - Select your province or territory. The forms are in PDF.
2. Order a Printed Package Online - Select the forms and publications you need, and fill in the order form online to have the Canada Revenue Agency mail you printed copies. Available starting February 4, 2009.
3. Order a Tax Package by Phone - In Canada and the United States call 1-800-959-2221 during business hours. From outside Canada and the United States call 1-613-952-3741 (collect calls should be accepted).
4. Pick up a Tax Package in Person - The income tax forms and general guide are available at postal outlets, Service Canada offices, and income tax offices.
5. If you're behind on your taxes, you can also download income tax packages from previous years from the Canada Revenue Agency.
