About Lorne Calvert:
A Moose Jaw native, Saskatchewan Premier Lorne Calvert was a United Church Minister before he entered politics in 1986. A cabinet minister in the Roy Romanow government, Lorne Calvert replaced Romanow as Premier in 2001. The vision of the Lorne Calvert NDP government was to build Saskatchewan into a "have" province with heart. In the 2007 provincial election Saskatchewan voters looking for a change defeated the NDP government and elected the right-leaning Brad Wall and the Saskatchewan Party.

Political Career of Lorne Calvert:
- Lorne Calvert was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly in the riding of Moose Jaw South in 1986.
- He was re-elected in the riding of Moose Jaw Wakamow in 1991, 1995 and 1999.
- In 1992 Lorne Calvert was appointed Associate Minister of Health and Minister Responsible for the Wakamow Valley Authority.
- Later that year he became Minister for SaskPower and SaskEnergy.
- In 1995, Lorne Calvert became Minister of Health, and then Minister of Social Services.
- Lorne Calvert was elected Leader of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party in 2001.
- He was sworn in as Premier of Saskatchewan in 2001.
- Lorne Calvert was re-elected in the riding of Saskatoon Riversdale in 2001.
- The NDP government was defeated by Brad Wall and the Saskatchewan Party in the 2007 Saskatchewan provincial election.
- Lorne Calvert won his own seat in the 2007 election and became Leader of the Opposition.
- In October 2008 Lorne Calvert resigned as Leader of the Saskatchewan NDP. He said he would stay on until the Saskatchewan NDP hold a leadership convention, scheduled for June 2009.
