2009 British Columbia Provincial Election

A British Columbia general provincial election was held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009. Gordon Campbell and the BC Liberals won a third majority government.

2009 BC Referendum on Electoral Reform

In conjunction with the 2009 BC general election, a second referendum was held on electoral reform, and British Columbians voted on whether to adopt the BC-STV electoral system or keep the current first past the post system.

The referendum ballots are still being counted on May 13, 2009, but it is clear the BC-STV proposal has been defeated and BC will stick with the first past the post electoral system.
