Who Can Vote in Alberta Elections

Eligibility to Vote in Provincial Elections in Alberta, Canada

To vote in an Alberta provincial election you must be

  • a Canadian citizen

  • at least 18 years old

  • a resident of Alberta for at least 6 months before polling day

You may not vote in an Alberta provincial election if

  • you are a returning officer, except to break a tie at the official count or judicial recount

  • you are serving a prison sentence of 11 days or more on polling day (except for the non-payment of fines)

  • you are otherwise disqualified from voting under the Alberta Election Act
