Who Can Vote in Ontario Elections

Eligibility to Vote in Provincial Elections in Ontario, Canada

To vote in an Ontario election you must be

  • a Canadian citizen

  • at least 18 years old on polling day

  • a resident of the electoral district.

If you have left Ontario within two years of election dday, you can still vote in an Ontario election if

  • you lived in Ontario for at least 12 consecutive months before leaving

  • you intend to reside in Ontario again

  • your last Ontario residence was in the electoral district.

The two year restriction does not apply to military personnel on active duty, students, Ontario government employees, Canadian government employees and their families.
