Definition: The consumer price index in Canada, or CPI, is a monthly measurement of changes in consumer prices in Canada. The consumer price index is based on the retail prices of a list of approximately 300 goods and services, from housing to food. Items in the consumer price index are weighted to reflect typical spending patterns by Canadians.

The Canadian consumer price index may be referred to as the cost of living in Canada. The consumer price index is a major economic indicator.
