Question: Who Was the First Canadian Woman Prime Minister?
Answer: Kim Campbell was the first Canadian woman prime minister, although her tenure was very brief. She was elected Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada in 1993, immediately making her Prime Minister of Canada. In the general federal election just four months later, the Progressive Conservatives suffered a crushing defeat to the Liberals, and lost all but two of their seats in the House of Commons. Kim Campbell lost her own seat in Vancouver Centre and retired from politics.

Kim Campbell can also claim other historic firsts for women in government in Canada. As well as being the first Canadian woman prime minister, she was the first woman minister of justice and attorney general of Canada, the first woman minister of national defence, and she was the first woman elected leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada.
